Opera International

Founded in 1994 by Producer-Director Muriel Hom, Opera International’s mission is to inspire an appreciation of Opera in young people, assist aspiring vocalists in preparation for operatic careers, and offer world-class productions at affordable prices.

Opera International runs an annual production of famed opera work to provide opportunities for young artists to perform lead roles alongside established singers who believe in this kind of apprenticeship and who are willing to share their skills to help young singers develop their craft. In addition, each artist is provided with a scholarship to further his or her career.

Over 40 young singers have benefited from working with Opera International and have enjoyed critical acclaim. Many have gone on to perform with leading opera companies, including the New York Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera. Washington Opera Theater, and the El Paso Opera.

2007 marks the fourteenth season of Opera International. This year’s performance will include Arias and Duets from Aida, Cavalleria rusticana, La traviata and Tosca.

About Muriel Hom
Founder, Producer-Director of Opera International

operamhom250.jpg A Baldwin Artist, pianist, and coach, Muriel Hom has performed in Germany, Austria, Mexico, the Republic of China, the People’s Republic of China and in the U.S. at the Kennedy Center, Spoleto Festival and on two PBS television concerts. Ms. Hom has produced four critically acclaimed Kennedy Center Concerts. She is Vice President of the Organization of Chinese American Women, and founder and producer of Opera International of nine world-class operas. She is also Vice President of the D.C. Federation of Music Club. In 1991, she was honored in Taiwan. In 1995, she was the recipient of an award by the Organization of Chinese American Women for her 40 years of work and dedication to aiding and developing singers.
